Hyundai Verna Spied With Wagon Type Body: Details

  • The new-gen Hyundai Verna is set to launch in India on March 21
  • A new wagon body type Hyundai Verna was recently spied in Russia

Hyundai is all set to launch the new-gen Verna in India on March 21st. The next-gen sedan from Hyundai has been spied multiple times in India in the last few weeks. However, this time a new Hyundai Verna with a wagon-type body has been spied in Russia. The Verna is a global product for Hyundai, and thus it is possible that Hyundai might be testing this new wagon body type Verna for international markets like North America and Europe. The spied images of the wagon-style Verna reveal a lot of design details. Here we have discussed all the details about this new wagon body type Hyundai Verna.

Wagon Body Type Hyundai Verna Spied: Design

The wagon-style Hyundai Verna spied in Russia seems similar to the new-gen Verna sedan till its B-pillar. It is the B-pillar from where the transition from a sedan to a wagon actually happens. However, unlike the Verna sedan, the wagon-style Verna gets an SUV-like stance with much higher ground clearance than its sedan counterpart. The Verna sedan gets a coupe-like slopping roof at the rear, whereas the wagon-style Verna gets an extended rear with a much bigger boot.

The wagon-style Verna seems to carry a front design similar to its sedan version. The spied images signal towards an LED light bar running across the front width of the car. The grill design also seems similar to the sedan counterpart. However, the alloy wheel design is different from its sedan counterpart.

Wagon Body Type Hyundai Verna Spied: Powertrain Expectation

The new-gen Hyundai Verna gets 2 engine options i.e. a 1.5 litre Turbo GDi Petrol engine with 6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) or 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (7DCT), and a 1.5 litre MPi Petrol engine with 6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) or Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT/CVT). We expect these same powertrain options in the wagon version of the Hyundai Verna.

Verdict: Historically, Indian customers have not been very welcoming to cars with the wagon-style body. Cars like Tata Indigo Marina, Tata (Telco) Estate, Skoda Octavia Combi, Fiat Palio Adventure, etc were launched in the Indian market but were discontinued due to low sales. As the Indian automotive market has matured over the years, Hyundai might launch the wagon version of Verna in India in the future.
